Early Life and Education

In 1966, at the age of 16, Miguel Martinez immigrated to the United States from Mexico with his family. He graduated high school in 1970 and immediately volunteered to serve his adopted country in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Field Medic in Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1973, Miguel pursued higher education at the University of Houston, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Latin American History and Literature.

Miguel began his legal studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., before transferring to the University of Texas Law School in Austin, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1981.
